The Vesper was created by James Bond author Ian Fleming and his friend Ivar Bryce. Fleming later popularised the drink when he gave it its public debut in his 1953 novel, Casino Royale. In the book, Bond himself invents it in a bar, subsequently naming it to commemorate his strong feelings for Vesper Lynd - Bond's first romantic interest in the original novels.

Ingredients & Method

Cocktail Ingredients

- 3 Parts Beefeater London Dry Gin
- 1 Part Stolichnaya Vodka
- 1/2 Part Lillet Blanc
- Dash Angostura bitters (to add a touch of the quinquina that was in the original Kina Lillet formula)

Method

Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a chilled champagne goblet. Garnish with a large slice of lemon peel.
